Plot of the film Magicians (1982 film):
The film takes place in the fictional city of Kitezhgrad in the Scientific Universal Institute of Extraordinary Services (NUINU). The institute deals with problems of magic and sorcery. On the eve of the New Year, a new unique product "VP" (magic wand) is developed in the laboratory headed by Alena Sanina.
The magic wand is successfully tested at the technical council and the director of the institute Kira Anatolyevna Shemanskaya decides to present the product on New Year's Eve. For this, a special commission must come from Moscow. Since the presentation must take place on New Year's Eve, it was decided to invite famous musicians from Moscow as well.
Shemanskaya appoints her deputy Sataneev and a young employee of the research institute, Alena Sanina, to be responsible for preparing the concert. But Alena is getting married soon and is planning to go to her fiancé, Ivan Pukhov, a worker at the Moscow Experimental Musical Instrument Factory.
Other soviet comedies
Sataneyev, who was in love with Alena, decides to prevent this. Having learned that Shemanskaya is having an affair with her deputy for scientific work, Ivan Kivrin, Sataneyev goes for broke. He tells Shemanskaya that Alena is going to marry Kivrin.
Kivrin had already divided Shemanskaya's proposal seven times, but the busy lady Shemanskaya had refused him seven times. Now she promised Kivrin that she would marry him, and Kivrin had to go to Moscow for gifts.
Having learned that her fiancé was marrying another woman, Shemanskaya seethed with jealousy. At that moment, Sanina came to her to sign a leave application. Shemanskaya categorically refused, citing that Alena had to prepare for the concert.
Alena cannot understand what is causing this cruelty of Shemanskaya, a kind woman and a sensitive leader. With tears in her eyes, she declares that she will leave anyway, despite Shemanskaya's prohibition. Then Shemanskaya, an experienced sorceress, decides to cast a spell on Alena.
She "takes" spring out of Alena's heart and "places" eternal winter in it. Previously kind and cheerful Alena becomes an evil and heartless careerist. All employees notice this change. Sataneyev, who previously could not achieve reciprocity from Alena, was now surrounded by her attention.
