Narrative:
The action of the movie "Chekist" takes place during the Russian Civil War. To combat the so-called counter-revolution, Lenin announced the implementation of "of the Red Terror". It represented a set of punitive measures against social groups declared by the Bolsheviks to be class enemies, but in essence, it was a means of intimidation for all those who were in one way or another opposed to Soviet power.
In practice, any person in whom the Cheka (Extraordinary Commission) saw a potential enemy could fall under the tribunal of the Revolutionary Military Council. No evidence of hostile activity was required for a death sentence, and the tribunal did not pass other sentences.
For a court consisting of a few Cheka officers (more often three), mere suspicion was enough. From being charged with counter-revolutionary activity to the execution of the sentence was a matter of hours.
In the firing cellar the work is boiling: death has been put on a conveyor belt. First, a senior Chekist reads out a list of the accused, who are all, with few exceptions, sentenced to be shot. Then the unfortunates are taken to the basement, where a shot in the back of the head awaits them. And then the stacked bodies are buried somewhere outside the city in a mass grave.
And so it is every day. The chief of the provincial Cheka Andrei Srubov tries to justify such monstrous cruelty, but the further this madness drags on, the harder it is to do. Finally, the chief Chekist of the city, unable to withstand the mental anguish, himself goes mad ...
