Действие фильма «Это было в разведке» происходит в 1944 году при освобождении Украины. Возвращаясь из госпиталя к себе в полк, Старшина Егоров знакомиться в дороге мальчишкой Василием Колосовым. Узнав, что у Васи погибли родители, Егоров забирает его к себе в полк, но командир взвода не обрадовался такому «пополнению» и требует, что бы утром Егоров отправил паренька обратно в тыл.
