Plot of the movie Hot Snow (1972):

The film takes place in December 1942. A month earlier, the Red Army encircled Field Marshal Paulus's 330,000-strong army in Stalingrad. All attempts by the Germans to break through the encirclement from the inside ended in failure, so Hitler's headquarters decided to help the encircled troops from the outside.

Field Marshal Manstein's group moved to help Paulus and, having broken through the front, entered the operational space of Stalingrad. Manstein's connection with the encircled group would have meant for the Soviet command a loss of initiative in the Stalingrad campaign and, as a consequence, in the entire war.

Задержать прорвавшиеся на участке фронта танки противника  поручалось армии генерал-лейтенанта Бессонова. Из докладов заместителей командующий понял, что на пути противника лежала одна естественная преграда — река Мышкова.

Форсировав которую немецким танкам останется всего 45 километров до Сталинграда. Вызвав к себе командира дивизии полковника Деева, командарм приказывает срочно выдвинуться к реке Мышкова, к вечеру «зарыться» в землю и быть готовым отразить наступление противника…
