The film takes place in the 16th century, in France. The Valois King Henry III, a slacker spoiled by luxury, let state affairs take their course, and only thanks to his jester Chicot remained formally on the throne of France.
The real claim to the throne was made by the king's brother, the Duke of Anjou. Quite recently, the Duke managed to introduce his man, the Count de Monsoreau, into Henry's entourage, who was appointed chief huntsman of France.
The brave war hero Count de Bussy also served the Duke of Anjou faithfully and truly. The brave and handsome Bussy was an unwelcome guest at the Louvre, and the king's favourites, the "minions", especially hated the count.
De Bussy was always not averse to making fun of these "heroes" pampered by royal affection when they met, and the "minions" decided to take revenge on the Count. But since it was beyond the power of each of the favorites to challenge de Bussy to a fair fight, the four of them decided to attack the Count, lying in wait for him late at night in a dark alley.
Bussy selflessly enters into battle with the king's six, but the forces were unequal and the "minions" surrounded the count, pressing him against the wall. But suddenly one door in the wall opened, and Bussy managed to hide behind it. The count lost consciousness, but when he came to his senses for a moment, he saw a woman of extraordinary beauty in front of him.

And when Bussy finally came to his senses in the morning, the woman was not there, and the house he had found himself in at night was gone. At first, the count thought it was a dream, but after talking with the doctor who had helped him, Bussy realized that the mysterious stranger was not a figment of his imagination.
It was not difficult to find the woman, and Bussy was convinced that anyone who saw her at least once would never be able to forget her. Diane de Monsoreau, that was the name of the blonde beauty, told Bussy the story of her short but difficult life.
Several years ago, the Duke of Anjou visited them in the castle of his father, Baron de Meridor. And after a while, the Duke's people kidnapped her from her father's house and settled her in a castle on the island. Count de Monsoreau helped her escape from the castle and avoid dishonor, but in return the Count demanded that Diana become his wife in order to finally escape the Duke's harassment.
Having become the Countess de Monsoreau, Diana became a recluse, the old and jealous Count did not allow anyone to see her, not even her father. Diana soon began to suspect that Monsoreau, a cunning and insidious man, had deliberately staged a performance with the kidnapping in order to take possession of her once and for all.
After listening to Diana's story, Bussy first of all understood that his leader, the Duke of Anjou, was a very greedy and cynical person, whom he could no longer serve as before. Now the Count de Bussy could only serve the charming Diana, whom he must free from the clutches of the all-powerful Montsoreau, and his no less powerful patron, the Duke of Anjou, who, like him, would stop at nothing to take possession of this woman...
