The plot of the film The Prisoner of the Chateau d'If:
The young sailor Edmond Dantes could rightfully be considered the darling of fate. Not long ago, the ship owner Morrel appointed him captain of his best ship, the Pharaoh. And soon after returning from another voyage, he was supposed to marry the charming Catalan Mercedes.
However, these rosy dreams did not come true. Right in the middle of his own wedding, Edmond was arrested and taken straight to the office of the royal prosecutor De Villefort.. Who, ironically, was also getting married that day.
In fact, he was interested in the last voyage of the Pharaoh, which, on Dantes’ orders, changed its route and went to Elba, where the former emperor was in exile.
Here Dantes received a letter to the Bonapartist committee in Paris and undertook to deliver the letter to the specified address. Like most young people, Edmond was not interested in politics and had no idea what was in the letter or to whom it was addressed.

He was merely fulfilling the dying request of the captain of the Pharaoh, whose assistant he was then serving as.
Despite all this, Dantes was placed in the Chateau d'If without trial or investigation. A castle from which one could only leave feet first. But Dantes did not want to accept his fate and began to dig a tunnel.
However, when the work was finished, he found himself in the same prison cell where some crazy old man was sitting.
At first it seemed so to Dantes. But the old man who called himself Abbot Faria was far from crazy. Thanks to Faria, Dantes learned who and why had hidden him in the Chateau d'If. And most importantly, the Abbot told him about the countless treasures on the island of Monte Cristo, which he could have seized if he had escaped from the castle.
The time spent with Faria was good for Dantes. During the years of their shared confinement, Faria managed to make Dantes a true aristocrat in spirit. He taught Edmond mathematics, philosophy and other sciences.
But one day Faria died. Since in the Château d'If the dead were thrown into the sea directly from the walls of the fortress, having first been placed in a sack, Dantes managed to change places with him and go out to freedom instead of him.
Having found Faria's treasure, Dantes became fabulously rich. Taking the new name of Monte Cristo, he became a count and after a long journey through Asia, he arrived in Paris.
The former prisoner of the Château d'If did not forget about those, through whose efforts he spent long, fifteen years in captivity. No, he was not going to take revenge on anyone, he just wanted to help Providence punish the scoundrels himself. Especially since after that incident they firmly took the path of crime, thanks to which they managed to build a good career for themselves and gain wealth….
