Plot of the movie Storm Gate (2006 film):

The commander of the motorized rifle company, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Doronin, received the combat mission of taking up defensive positions at the Grozovye Vorota pass. According to the command's plan, Doronin's company was supposed to attract a large detachment of Khabib's fighters and hold them until the main forces of the federal troops arrived.

But the regiment commander, Colonel Galkin, did not inform the company commander about this; on the contrary, he reassured Alexander that no militant breakthrough was expected in this area. The company was reinforced by a GRU special forces unit under the command of Major Egorov. Having arrived at the site, Doronin's company took up all-round defense of the pass.

At first, the fighters of Senior Lieutenant Doronin managed to repel attacks by disparate militant forces, who knew nothing about the presence of federal troops at the Grozovye Vorota Pass. And the air force came to the rescue in time.

Майору Егорову и его бойцам даже удалось выйти на след самого Хабиба, полевого командира. Но захватить живым Хабиба не получилось, он был убит в перестрелке. Вскоре ситуация изменилась, теперь боевики знали, что на перевале «Грозовые ворота» нет крупных сил федеральных войск.

Бывший чеченский генерал «Шах», перешедший на сторону федералов, сообщил, что в горах находиться отряд боевиков численностью около тысячи человек. Доронин сразу сообщил эти сведения полковнику Галкину, требуя подкрепления. Галкин в свою очередь доложил командиру дивизии. Но комдив категорически запретил выслать подкрепление, чтобы не спугнуть боевиков…
