The film takes place in modern Russia. Former St. Petersburg operative Yevgeny Dmitrievich Koltsov, convicted of murdering his dishonest colleague, arrives from a stage in a maximum security penal colony to serve a five-year sentence.
Koltsov's superiors took precautions and fired Koltsov retroactively, as a result of which Evgeny ended up not in a special colony for former law enforcement officers, but in a regular colony.
The rumor about the arrival of a cop in the zone quickly spread throughout the zone, and the head of the colony, fearing that another emergency might occur in his area, turns for help to the zone's overseer, a repeat offender thief, Viktor Sumarokov, nicknamed "Twilight". Sumarokov had just received a letter from the outside, which said that his mother was seriously ill.
The boss offers Sumarokov a deal: he lets him go on vacation to see his mother, and "Sumrak" will have to keep an eye on the "cop". At this time, Koltsov was being processed in his office by the head of the operational department, Major Gladkikh. He offered Evgeny his help in exchange for "cooperation". But Koltsov refused this "tempting" offer to become an informer.
The major did not like this, and soon he wanted to change the thieves' power in the zone and install his own activist "Shaman" as his supervisor. And as soon as the head of the colony went on vacation, Gladkikh began his "revolution". "Shaman" organizes mass riots in the zone, and his people try to kill Koltsov and Sumarokov under the noise.

But the OMON arrived in time and stopped the "Shaman" from trying to deal with the prisoners Major Gladkikh didn't like. Fortunately for Koltsov, the OMON chief Sergei Gagarin was his former colleague in Chechnya.
Gagarin takes the wounded Sumarokov and Koltsov to the hospital, postponing their death for several days. But Koltsov understands that he cannot return to the zone, "Shaman" will certainly kill him and asks Gagarin to help him and Sumarokov escape.
Gagarin agrees to help his comrade-in-arms and tries to take them out in his car. But after the prisoners escaped, a plan was announced to intercept them, checkpoints were set up on the roads, where all cars were inspected.
Gagarin suddenly remembered that his neighbor Zinaida Polyakova had asked him for two soldiers to help her. The pioneer camp where Polyakova worked as a manager urgently needed two pioneer leaders…
