The plot of the movie The Caucasian Captive, or The New Adventures of Shurik:
Shurik, a cheerful and resourceful student, goes to the Caucasus during his summer vacation. On this trip Shurik wants to make a collection of old Caucasian traditions, toasts or legends. But Shurik's most important achievement would be to personally participate in some ancient Caucasian ritual.
It is not known how this story would have ended if Shurik had not met a charming student, athlete and Komsomol girl Nina, who came to visit her uncle.
With her beauty the girl captivated everyone who would come in her way, and of course Shurik was no exception, who tried timidly to woo her. The local official Saakhov also liked Nina and decided that Nina should definitely become his wife.
But how to do it in the 20th century? After all, the girl herself had no desire to marry Saakhov. Then, colluding with her uncle, to whom Saakhov had paid a generous kalym, he decides to kidnap the girl.
And to make everything look plausible, the intruders involve Shurik in the case. Knowing that he is fond of ancient Caucasian rites, they offer Shurik to take part in one of such rites, "bride kidnapping".

Suddenly Shurik learns that Nina has a mysterious fiancé with whom, according to his uncle, the girl is madly in love. Shurik is very saddened by what he hears. However, since, according to the uncle, she wanted to be kidnapped by Shurik, he still agrees to the case.
But when everything was done, Shurik finds out that the whole affair was not an ancient rite at all, but an ordinary kidnapping. And most importantly, now Nina considered him a despicable traitor.
At first Shurik tries to go to the police or even the prosecutor's office, but then decides that he himself must find Nina. After all, if he has stolen, he must return her, and the kidnappers will face a fair Soviet court....
