Svirid Petrovich Golokhvosty, a hereditary barber, has squandered his entire fortune and is bankrupt. The court bailiff describes his barbershop, and to pay his debts Golokhvastov decides to get married suddenly.

The favorite of Golokhvostoy was a certain Pronya Prokopovna Sirko - the daughter of small traders Sirkiv, who tried to be attached to the noble class.

Sirkiv's only daughter was far from beautiful, but her parents spared nothing for their child. They even sent her to a boarding school for noblewomen to learn good manners. And to attract the attention of potential suitors, for his daughter Sirko gave a generous dowry of ten thousand rubles.

Upon learning of this, the bankrupt barber decided to act immediately. As a master of making dust in the eyes, Golokhvostom easily manages to charm Pronya and her simple-minded parents, and it seemed that he had ten thousand rubles in his pocket.

However, he would not be himself if he could not miss a single pretty face. Once he met the beautiful Galya in an alley, Golokhvastov could not resist having an affair for the soul.

But as they say, chase two birds, none of them will catch, because Holohvosty and could not think that Galya and Pronya were cousins ...
