Action of the film Striped flight takes place in the early 60s of the last century. Having worked as a cook in a buffet trade mission USSR in one of the African countries, Gleb Savelyevich Shuleikin, who suffered in Africa from the hot climate, had to leave the Motherland. But, as it turned out, it was not quite easy to do.
The trade mission purchased tigers for Soviet zoos, but as luck would have it, the tamer who was supposed to accompany them fell ill. The purchased tigers had to be sent to the union immediately, because every day they ate a whole horse of meat, which the trade mission was forced to pay for with valuable foreign currency.
An agent of a company selling animals, having learned that Shuleikin is leaving for the Union, persuades him to introduce himself as an accompanying tiger tamer, since without an accompanying person the captain will not take the cargo on board. At first, Shuleikin flatly refuses to become a "tamer", but then, having learned that the next flight to the Union will be only in five months, Gleb Savelyevich agrees.
After all, as the agent explained to him, his duties would be the same as in the buffet. Only instead of people, he would have to feed animals in cages for several days. As soon as the ship set sail from the shore, strange events began to occur. Things began to disappear from the crew members, the sailors found nuts, bolts, washers and even the captain's first mate's personal chronometer in the borscht.

The first mate Oleg Petrovich immediately suspected the only woman on the ship of hooliganism - the barmaid Mariana, the niece of the ship's captain. Mariana was in love with the first mate, but because Oleg Petrovich did not pay any attention to her, Mariana constantly argued with the first mate and tried to anger him somehow.
The captain was about to severely punish the barmaid when the real troublemaker was discovered. This troublemaker turned out to be a monkey. Just before the ship's departure, a company representative delivered a bag, which, he announced, contained a gift for a wholesale purchase of tigers. The bag instantly disappeared, but no one paid attention to it at the time.
But now the captain, realizing that a monkey on a ship is worse than dynamite, orders to catch it and throw it overboard. The sailors try to catch the macaque, but in vain, it hides in the first mate's cabin. Having found a monkey in his cabin, the first mate hides it and reports to the captain that he caught the animal and threw it into the sea.

The captain asks Oleg Petrovich to apologize to Mariana, because now it is clear who was causing trouble on the ship. But the first mate, who had already suffered greatly for love, was not inclined to any sentimentality. Standing at the door of the cabin, Mariana overheard that the first mate considered her worse than a monkey. The offended barmaid decides to take revenge on the arrogant first mate.
At night, she draws tiger tracks on the deck. Seeing the tracks, the captain calls the "tamer" and demands an explanation. The frightened Shuleikin says that he is the one "walking" the tigers at night. Then the captain calls the first mate and reprimands him for violating ship discipline. Mariana rejoices, but soon the first mate catches her red-handed drawing new tracks.
This time Mariana failed to escape punishment, she was locked up until the ship arrived in Odessa. Meanwhile, the monkey managed to slip out of the cabin and open the cages with the striped predators. Seeing the tigers on the deck, the sailors hid in all directions, the ship lost control. But Mariana, who had escaped from her confinement, managed to find a common language with the tigers and drive them back into the cages, having conquered not only the predators, but also the unshakable first mate...
