The plot of the movie The Marriage of Balsaminoff (1985 film):
The action of the movie takes place in the 19th century in Moscow. The protagonist of the movie is young Mikhail Balsaminov. He is a small clerk with a very modest salary, but very big ambitions. To improve his modest existence Balsaminov dreams of marrying a maiden or a woman with a good dowry.
In his dreams and dreams Misha flew in the clouds, he imagined himself a rich nobleman or a general and even a tsar. One day in the house of Balsaminoff, it seemed that real luck knocked. Matchmaker Akulina Gavrilovna Krasavina informed Misha about a rich bride. Who inherited from her merchant-father a huge fortune of three hundred thousand rubles.
Upon hearing such news Balsaminov immediately goes on a date with the merchant's daughter, and even makes a good impression on her. But the bride's uncle, a rich merchant, did not want to see such a miserable starving man as Balsaminov near his niece.
Such a turn at first greatly upset Misha Balsaminoff. He realizes that in this unfair world, a poor man can only marry a poor woman. And only a rich man can marry a rich woman. In his dreams he saw himself as a tsar who issues a decree stipulating the obligation to marry the rich to the poor and vice versa on pain of death.
However, this failure did not break Balsaminoff's optimism. He continues to dream and see "prophetic" dreams. On the advice of Akulina Gavrilovna, Misha tries to court two rich women at once. He becomes an object of ridicule for the young beauty, and, in the end, marries the second - a mature, powerful widow merchant, owner of a huge fortune....
