Plot of the film Funny People (1977):
The film is set in the late 19th century in Russia. The film intertwines the plot lines of the stories "The Singers", "Tears Invisible to the World", "A Conversation Between a Man and a Dog", "In the Barber's", "The Intruder", "In the Bathhouse", "Fat and Thin", "Gone". The viewer gets to the rehearsals of an unusual choir and gets acquainted with the diverse and funny stories of the singers...
Funny People. Story 1 "The Singers"
The district town of N is expecting a distinguished guest, a native of these parts, and now a high-ranking Moscow count, His Excellency Mikhail Ivanovich. In order to please the count, a choir has been organized in the town, which rehearses for days, honing its skills. But the distinguished guest who arrived in the town turned out to be not such a great connoisseur of church singing and asked to rid him of this annoying choir...
Funny People. Story 2 "The Dog Story"
After another choir rehearsal, local investigator Fyodor Akimovich invites his choir colleagues to come to his place and have a few shots of vodka. But naturally, it wasn't limited to a few shots, and the singers got so drunk that one of them started a conversation with a dog on the way home...
Funny People. Story 3 "In the Barber Shop"
One of the singers, Makarushka, worked as a barber and always cut his godfather Yagodov's hair for free. This time Yagodov came to Makarushka's barber shop and asked him to cut his head short. Makarushka got to work and then suddenly found out that his fiancée, Yagodov's daughter, was getting married to someone else. This news almost paralyzed poor Makarushka, so Yagodov was forced to leave the barber shop with his head half-shaved...

The wife of a city official, Pierre, angrily condemns her friend, who married a bribe-taker and a thief. When her husband asks her what she would do if she found out that he is also a thief and a bribe-taker, the wife answers that she would immediately leave him. Then Pierre reveals the truth to her, that he is an even bigger bribe-taker and thief than her friend's husband. Hearing this, the wife actually fulfills her promise and leaves, though only to another room...

A track guard detains a criminal who was unscrewing nuts on the railroad tracks. The criminal turned out to be the singer Denis Grigoriev, and he was interrogated by another singer Fyodor Akimovich. The investigator tells Grigoriev that his actions could have led to a train crash and the death of people. But Grigoriev does not feel guilty, because he needed the nuts for weights…

At the station, two old childhood friends, Vasya and Misha, who have not seen each other for a long time, meet. They hug, remember their childhood, but then suddenly Vasya finds out that Misha is not Misha, but His Excellency Count Mikhail Ivanovich, who has been expected in the city for so long. Now Vasya apologized to Misha for a long time and bowed in an obsequious curtsey...
