Narrative:
Action of the film The most charming and attractive takes place in the mid-80s of the last century in Russia. The main character of the film is Nadya Klyueva, an engineer at a design bureau Research Institute, actively participating in the social activities of the work collective, but at over thirty years old she is still not married.
One day, during another shift at the DND (voluntary people's militia), Nadya and her partner detained some hooligans, as a result of which activist Klyueva got a black eye. Returning home after a tense shift, Nadya meets her former classmate Susanna on the bus.
Having learned that Klyueva is not married yet, Susanna promises to help her, because she works as a sociologist at a household air conditioner factory and is also working on a dissertation on the psychology of family relationships. The main thing, as she explained to Nadya, is that you don’t need to wait for men to propose to you, you can wait your whole life.
A modern woman should be active and forge her own happiness. The next day, Susanna went with Nadya to her work, because, in her opinion, a good groom should be sought not in a restaurant, but in the work collective.

The first candidate for Klyueva's hand, technician Gena Sysoev, with whom Nadya played table tennis during the break, was categorically rejected by Susanna.
The simple and modest Gena, in Susanna's opinion, was almost in their pocket, and they needed to set the highest goals for themselves. Soon, the simple-minded villager Lesha Pryakhin, the womanizer family man Misha Dyatlov, and the elderly department chief Pyotr Vasilyevich were excluded from the list of potential suitors. Only the handsome man and ladies' man Volodya Smirnov remained.
But Nadya doubts that Volodya would marry her, because she is a nobody to him. But Susanna assures that with the help of her scientific methods everything is possible, and Nadya just has to follow her advice. Everything is used: autogenic training, new fashionable outfits, and an attempt to pave the way to Volodya's heart through his stomach. And one day Susanna asks her husband Arkady to pick up Nadya from work in his car - the latest model of "Zhiguli" - and pick her up in front of everyone.
Finally, Susanna gives Nadya one last chance. Knowing that Volodya is a passionate music lover, she invites Klyueva to go with him to a hard-to-find concert of a foreign group and gets two tickets. But all these scientific methods of seduction do not work on Volodya, he remains indifferent to Nadya.
And then one day Arkady, Susanna's husband, comes to Nadya's work and asks Nadya to arrange an alibi for him, he really needs to be free that evening. Now Nadya understands that science is powerless in love affairs, because even Susanna, with her scientific approach, cannot keep her own husband from cheating. Having lost interest in further "development" of Volodya, Nadya resumes playing table tennis with Gena Sysoev, realizing that he is her destiny...
