Narrative:
Action of the film Kangaroo Jackpot takes place in the early 80s in the USA. Two events that happened on the same day changed the life of a ten-year-old boy, Charlie Carboni. That day, on the beach, his mother met a major mobster from Brooklyn, Salvatore Maggio, nicknamed "Sal". The mother was so carried away by her new acquaintance that she did not keep an eye on her son, who did not know how to swim.
Charlie jumped into the ocean after the ball and almost drowned, but Louis Booker, a black boy Charlie's age, came to his aid... Since then, Charlie and Louis have become inseparable friends. And "Sal" married Charlie's mother and adopted him.
Twenty years passed. Charlie did not live up to the trust of his stepfather, who intended to introduce him into his "family" of mafiosi. So "Sal" bought a small beauty salon for his stepson, for the sake of his mother. But for himself he took the lion's share of the proceeds, so Charlie barely made ends meet.
One day, Louis came into the salon and asked Charlie to help him drive a truck with TVs to a warehouse. The truck turned out to be stolen and soon all the police patrol cars were chasing them. The friends led them to the warehouse of stolen goods, which belonged to "Salu".
As a result of the search, "Sal" suffered losses of millions of dollars. The angry stepfather gives Charlie and his friend one last chance. They must go to Australia and deliver a package to a certain Mr. Smith. On the plane, Louis decided to satisfy his curiosity and see what was in the package. And the package contained fifty thousand dollars.

Having successfully passed customs, the friends rented a car and went to meet Mr. Smith. On the way, a kangaroo gets under their wheels. Louis offers Charlie to take a picture of the dead animal in his lucky jacket and puts the jacket on him. At that moment, the kangaroo wakes up and runs away, causing a burst of laughter among the friends.
But then Louis remembers to his horror that the envelope with the money was left in his jacket pocket. The friends try to catch up with the kangaroo by car, but only crash it. Somehow they get to Alice Springs. From a small cafe, Louis calls Mr. Smith and tries to explain the situation, but Smith decided that the guys decided to pocket his money, and promises to kill them.
Scared Charlie and Louis don't know what to do. In the yard Louis meets Jessie, a charming girl from an animal protection organization. She advises to find a plane with a good pilot and a tranquilizer gun to put animals to sleep.
The next day, under the control of the best pilot in the area, the friends set out to look for the kangaroo. But this time, too, the kangaroo got away, and the plane crashed. The friends now had to go to the "Devil's Valley" to look for Jessie. Only she could help the boys now.
Meanwhile, Smith tells "Sal" that he has not received his money, and "Sal" sends his assistant Frankie Lombardo to find the fugitives. Finally, with Jesse's help, the friends manage to get the package back. Charlie tells Frankie, who has found them, that they have found the money.
But Frankie doesn't need them, because "Sal" sent them to Australia so that Smith would kill them, and the money is payment for the murder. And Frankie came to fix the situation...
