Plot:

The action of the film "Fortress on Wheels" takes place in the first month of the Great Patriotic War. Under the pressure of the advancing enemy, units and formations of the Red Army are forced to retreat, leaving more and more cities and villages to the enemy.

A threatening situation has developed near Kiev: the Soviet troops defending the city have found themselves in operational encirclement. In the Kanev area, a crossing over the Dnieper was urgently built for the withdrawal of units of General Usov's army, but the fascists are making incredible efforts to close the encirclement.

Suddenly, a Soviet armored train appears in the German rear and is tasked with providing fire support for the crossing with General Usov’s retreating troops…
