In August 2000, the Russian Northern Fleet begins large-scale military exercises, which involve the newest nuclear submarine "Kursk". However, just a few hours after setting sail, communication with the submarine "Kursk" is lost. And the radars of nearby ships recorded a powerful underwater explosion.
An explosion in the torpedo compartment led to partial destruction of the submarine's hull. However, several surviving sailors managed to take refuge in one of the undamaged compartments and send out a distress signal.
Having received this signal, the Northern Fleet command made a decision to rescue the sailors, but the special rescue vehicles turned out to be somewhat outdated and were unable to dock with the Kursk.
British specialists offer assistance in rescuing the sailors, but the highest military-political leadership of Russia initially refuses foreign assistance, and when a positive decision is then made at the highest level, it is already too late...
