Plot of the film Icebreaker (2016 film):
The film takes place in 1985. The Soviet icebreaker "Mikhail Gromov" is on duty near the shores of Antarctica. Suddenly, an iceberg appears on the ship's route, and Captain Andrei Petrov takes emergency measures to change course. But the iceberg begins to capsize. At this time, one of the crew members falls overboard. And the captain is forced to stop the icebreaker to save the man.
It was a very risky decision. After all, the iceberg could fall on the ship at any moment and then the entire crew of the icebreaker could die. Captain Petrov put the entire crew in mortal danger in order to save one of its members. And this was a serious violation of the ship's regulations, and besides, the victim was never saved.
Despite the fact that the ship managed to avoid disaster and emerge from this difficult situation with minor damage to the starboard side and the antennas of the location stations, the captain's senior mate Anatoly Eremeev reports the incident to the fleet leadership in Leningrad.

Petrov is removed from command of the icebreaker, and a new captain, Valentin Sevchenko, arrives in his place. The board that delivered Sevchenko to the ship was supposed to pick up Petrov and deliver him to Australia, for further transportation to the USSR, but due to a breakdown, this redeployment did not take place, and Petrov remains on the ship.
At this time, the icebreaker Mikhail Gromov made a forced stop and was bound by ice. Captain Sevchenko, on orders from Moscow, orders the ship to drift and wait for a rescue expedition. Petrov categorically disagrees with this, and tells Sevchenko about the very iceberg they almost collided with. The iceberg is moving behind them and can catch up with the drifting icebreaker at any moment.
But Sevchenko rejects all of Petrov’s arguments and forbids him from dealing with the ship’s affairs, since he is no longer only not the captain, but not even an ordinary member of the crew.
By order of Sevchenko, a strict food and electricity saving regime was introduced on the ship, which, under long-term conditions, caused discontent among the sailors. After several months of anchorage, the crew decided to mutiny and remove the captain from command of the ship…
