Narrative:
The action of the film "The First" takes place in the first half of the 18th century. Tsar Peter I sends The Great Northern Expedition to define and mark the maritime boundaries of the Russian Empire.
The captain of the ship "Yakutsk" Vasily Pronchishchev and his navigator Semyon Chelyuskin are given the task of finding the northernmost cape of the Russian Empire and installing a border post on it.
The task was very difficult and dangerous, because not a single expedition had ever been able to reach this place, and Pronchishchev and Chelyuskin could be the first to do so.
However, harsh trials await the explorers along the way: scurvy, convicts who try to seize the ship, and finally, ice that has frozen the Yakutsk in the waters of the northern sea...
