Narrative:
On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union. Three army groups, "South", "Center" and "North", began an invasion in three directions: Kyiv, Moscow and Leningrad. Hitler attached special importance to the capture of Leningrad, because this city was the cradle of three Russian revolutions and bore the name of the leader of the world proletariat, Vladimir Lenin.
In addition to its symbolic significance, Leningrad had an important strategic significance. Many defense enterprises, the Baltic fleet, and large military units united into the Leningrad Front were concentrated here.
Without capturing Leningrad, Hitler could not fully advance on Moscow, fearing that the Leningrad Front would strike him in the rear.
Однако не успев до зимы взять город с ходу, Гитлер приказывает остановить штурм и взять город в кольцо. Так началась блокада Ленинграда, длившаяся 872 дня — почти два с половиной года…
