The plot of the TV series Leningrad (movie 2007):
In the fall of 1941, the Germans, having lost all hope of capturing Leningrad, took the city in a tight ring of encirclement, blocking virtually all ways of supplying material and, most importantly, foodstuffs, the stocks of which were rapidly depleting.
The only route by which food could be delivered to the city was Lake Ladoga, but under dense German artillery and aircraft fire, only one barge out of ten reached the shore. The city leadership decided to cut the already meager daily bread ration: 300 grams for workers and 150 grams for children and dependents, and a mass famine began in the city.
With the onset of frost, the city administration planned to deliver food products on the ice of Lake Ladoga, but as it turned out, the ice on the lake would not be strong at great depths, and there was no depth measurement map. The only person who knew Ladoga like the back of his hand was engineer Vasily Krause, and he probably could have made a map of the lake, but he was in German-occupied Peterhof at the time.
The local NKVD leadership sent a reconnaissance team to Peterhof, but it was ambushed, a fact that led the Chekists to assume the presence of an enemy agent in the top party and economic leadership of Leningrad. This was also evidenced by the fact that the Germans were aware of top secret information about the state of food in the city and used this information in their propaganda activities.
At this time, a group of Soviet and foreign journalists arrives in Leningrad to cover the real situation in the city. On the last day of their stay in the city, a part of the journalists, going to the outskirts of Leningrad, where a fierce battle recently took place, falls under the German air strike. Only one British journalist Kate Davies survives and miraculously returns to the city, where she is picked up by a young policewoman Nina Tsvetkova.
During an enemy raid Kate lost her bag with documents and now all her attempts to prove her identity were in vain. In addition, during the total spy mania, a person without documents and with a foreign accent could become an easy prey for the ubiquitous NKVD. Realizing this, Nina at her own risk shelters Kate, helping her to get settled in the besieged city and, if possible, to survive the horror in which they all found themselves...
