Narrative:

The action of the series SMERSH takes place in 1945 on the territory of liberated Belarus. Despite the fact that the war had already died down here, the inhabitants of Western Belarus continued to die at the hands of numerous gangs roaming the forests and armed with captured weapons.

The largest and most well-organized gang, which brought terror to the residents of Grodno and its environs, was a detachment of the Home Army under the leadership of Ataman Józef Bernatsky. Józef was an ideological ataman, and in addition to the usual robberies and murders, he was engaged in subversive terrorist activities aimed at overthrowing Soviet power in Western Belarus.

The local commandant's office was running off its feet in search of the bandits, but without experienced operatives it was difficult to catch Bernatsky with military operations alone, and he, feeling his impunity, became more brazen with each passing day.

SMERSH operative Captain Kapitonov asks the leadership to provide him with experienced operatives to fight the separatist bandits, but receives a categorical refusal and instructions to neutralize the gang on his own.

At this time, a group of SMERSH officers is leaving Germany for a short vacation. On the way, they stop in Grodno and become unwitting witnesses to another robbery by Yusef's henchmen at a warehouse. The SMERSH officers try to detain the bandits, but they themselves are detained by a military patrol of the local commandant's office.

The scouts are released from custody by Kapitonov, with whom they once fought together. Kapitonov tells his colleagues about the difficult situation in Grodno and asks them to stay here for a while and help in finding the bandits with whom they almost met.

At first, the officers were not happy with this proposal, because they had not been home for so long, it was a long-awaited vacation, and now they had to fight again. But the group commander, Captain Grigory Lubents, managed to convince his comrades, because first and foremost they were SMERSH officers, and the war, judging by everything, was not over yet…
