Plot of the film Highway (1983 film):
The film takes place in the early 80s of the last century. An emergency occurs on the Krasnogorsk railway.
An overloaded gondola car derails and knocks down a power line support, causing all trains on the main line to be forced to stop.
Due to the downtime on the railway, many enterprises stopped shipping goods, which in turn could lead to the disruption of state plans.
However, the head of the road, Konstantin Andreevich Urzhumov, demands that the issue of passenger trains running behind schedule be resolved first.
But the regional committee, under pressure from enterprise managers, is making compelling requests to let freight trains through first.
Thus, taking advantage of the absence of the head of the road, Urzhumov, his deputy, Zhelnin, at the request of the head of the regional committee’s transport department, asks the head of the road department, Isaev, to provide tanks to the “burning” oil refinery.
The solution to all these constantly changing instructions from his superiors fell on the shoulders of the experienced dispatcher Boychuk, who had a conflict with his wife before his shift.
The modest dispatcher lived with his wife and two children in a one-room apartment and had already given up his place in line for expansion twice.
Boychuk's generosity, of course, pleased his comrades, but it did not please his wife at all, who demanded that her husband defend his interests.

That day, under pressure from his wife, Boychuk decided to talk to the head of the road department, Isaev, about his living space, but he brushed him off like an annoying fly.
A depressed Boychuk returned to his workplace, but in this state he was unable to fully concentrate on performing his duties and adequately respond to such a dynamically changing situation.
All this led to another emergency: a fast passenger train collides with a tanker, resulting in the death of the locomotive driver's assistant...
