The series takes place in our time. In the late 80s, a graduate of the military school of airborne troops, Alexander Vyshenkov, went to fulfill his international duty in the Republic of Afghanistan.

He plans to use his student Oleg Gromov, who was recently discharged from the army, as the group's leader.
Retired major and special forces soldier Gromov, like Vyshenkov, went through hot spots, was wounded and also had a hard time coping with his dismissal from the army.
