Narrative:
The film takes place in 1945. The last months of the war are underway, the Red Army is on its way to Berlin, and commanders can already see the capital of the Third Reich through binoculars. The last line of defense before Berlin is the city Strausberg, which is tasked with taking Colonel Alexei Petrov's division on the move.
The army commander's order is strict: take the city by 20:00 of the current day, but the colonel, understanding the full responsibility, is in no hurry to throw people to certain death, because he understands how terrible it is to die at the very end of the war. Zaitsev, who was far removed from administrative work, did not have to be the commandant for long, since he was soon replaced by a regular commandant, and Ivan Yegorovich rushed to catch up with the division that had become his home, in order to take Berlin together with his fighting brothers.
In Berlin, Zaitsev had the great honor of providing communications between the Soviet command and Hitler's lair, the Reich Chancellery of the Fuhrer. True, the Fuhrer himself was no longer there. Having committed suicide, Hitler appointed a new Chancellor of Germany, Goebbels, in his place, who immediately turned to the Soviet command with a request for peace negotiations. In response, the Soviet government put forward the only condition for peace negotiations: the complete and unconditional surrender of the German army...
