Charles Heller is one of the many CIA officers who are not written about in books or made into thriller movies. He can't shoot, doesn't know hand-to-hand combat, and isn't trained in extreme driving.
But this does not make his work unimportant. Charles Heller is a top-notch cryptographer. He protects the country's security from the comfort of the intelligence building, and his main weapon is his head.
But one day trouble comes to Heller. His wife goes on a business trip to London and by fatal accident becomes a victim of terrorists. Heller quickly establishes the names of possible killers, but the management is in no hurry to start searching for them. Motivated by the fact that it is important for them to follow the terrorists to reveal the entire network.
However, Heller was not satisfied with such an excuse. He studied all the previous acts of the perpetrators and found that they were closely intertwined with some of the CIA's special operations. He realized that some CIA executives were using these terrorists in their dirty deeds and therefore were in no hurry to track them down.
With such a bargaining chip in hand, Heller has resorted to blackmailing his superiors. In exchange for silence and non-disclosure of this information, Heller demands only one thing. He himself is ready to take revenge on the killers, but for this he must be trained in the techniques and tactics of sabotage and subversion.
The bosses doubt that Heller will ever be able to learn it, but they put an experienced instructor to him. And while he was molding Helper into a special forces killer, they started searching for the secret files that Heller was blackmailing them with. When that search was unsuccessful, they realized Heller was just bluffing. The rookie was now a true professional and had become very dangerous to the system. That same day, the instructor receives orders to eliminate Heller ...
