Professional thief Parker, at the request of his friend and future father-in-law Hurley, goes on a job with a gang of visiting "touring performers" of a certain Melander.
The thieves were supposed to "break into" a local fair, in the cash register of which, according to Parker, a decent amount of cash had accumulated. Since the criminals were acting on Parker's tip, he personally developed all the details of the operation, taking care to exclude human casualties.
But it was not possible to carry out such a carefully planned operation without casualties due to the negligent actions of one of Melander's henchmen.
That's why, after the case, Parker categorically rejects Melander's offer to participate with his thugs in another case, where they can hit the jackpot incomparably bigger.
Having heard the refusal, Melander in turn refuses to give Parker his share, because he expected to use this money to prepare a new, larger robbery.
Parker's stubbornness was confusing Melander's plans, so he ordered his henchmen to kill Parker. Parker miraculously managed to stay alive in this mess: he was found seriously wounded by the side of the road by a local farmer couple and taken to the hospital.
Having barely regained consciousness, Parker escapes from the hospital: he is determined to find Melander and punish him. Hot on the trail, Parker found out that Melander and his people settled in Miami, where he was probably supposed to carry out the business in which he offered Parker to participate.
In turn, Melander learned that Parker had survived and was on his trail. In order to stop Parker, Melander turned to his "roof" in the person of the influential Chicago mafioso Desinger, who sent a hired killer on Parker's trail...
