Narrative:
The action of the movie "Escape from Shawshank" unfolds in 1949 in America. A young banker Andy Dufresne was undeservedly accused by the court of murdering his wife and her lover and sentenced to life in Shawshank prison.
In prison, Andy meets an African-American man, Ellis Redding, nicknamed "Red". Redding had served twenty years at that time and had given up all hope of ever being released. Every ten years the parole board would review his case, and each time they would deny him freedom. "Red" was about to resign himself to his fate, as luck would have it he was brought together with Andy.
Thanks to his intelligence and education Andy quickly gains sympathy not only among the prisoners, but also among the prison staff at Shawshank. After the first ten years of his incarceration, Andy's efforts lead to the creation of a new library in Shawshank.
This publicity for the prison helped its warden, Samuel Norton, to obtain contracts for various jobs. This activity brought Norton huge "left-wing" profits, which Andy reissued to a front man.
In the mid-60's, a young thief, Tommy Williams, is imprisoned and tells Andy the name of the real killer of his wife and her lover. Andy immediately goes to the warden, demanding that a review of his case be authorized.

But Norton was too interested in Andy's services to let him out of jail, so, for his persistence, Andy gets a month in solitary confinement. And a young thief, Tommy Williams, is killed while "trying" to escape.
When Andy got out of the punishment cell, his friend "Red" noticed a strange change in him. Andy seemed to have lost his mind and was on the verge of suicide. He asks "Red" to fulfill his last request: to visit the place where he first met his wife. There, by the tree under a rock, he has to find something. Andy himself dreams of a life in the small Mexican town of Siuatanejo on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
The night after this conversation, "Red" could not sleep a wink, fearing that Andy might not kill himself. But Andy did not kill himself, but escaped from prison. As it turned out later, all these twenty years Andy unlike "Red" did not give up hope to go free and was preparing an escape from Shawshank
Once out on parole, Andy took possession of all of Norton's money, which he had made out to a front man and safely departed for Siouatanejo. A few years later, the parole board decided to release Red.
Red's forty years of life in a non-prison environment was not a happy one, and he was ready to end it, but he decided to fulfill Andy's request first. In the place where Andy had told him to go Red finds money and a letter from Andy. In it, Andy invites "Red" to his place in Siouatanejo, a small town on the Pacific coast....
