Plot of the film Young Russia (1982 film):
The film takes place during the era of Peter the Great in the Russian North and focuses on the fates of Captain Commander Sylvester Ievlev, Lieutenant of the Customs Troops Afanasy Krykov and Helmsman Ivan Ryabov.
Ivan Ryabov, a real historical figure, performed a feat in 1701 by running a Swedish ship aground. Sylvester Ievlev, also a real historical figure, participated in the construction of the Novodvinsk fortress and led the defense of Arkhangelsk.
The story begins in Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, where Peter I organizes the construction of a fleet. Ryabov meets his future wife, and Krykov encounters smuggling. The action moves to Arkhangelsk, where Ievlev and Krykov confront the embezzlement of funds and fight corruption.
Soon it becomes known about the Swedish fleet's intentions to seize the shipyards. Ievlev builds a fortress for defense, and Ryabov, under the guise of a fisherman, becomes the Swedish helmsman.
The culmination is a battle with the Swedish squadron, where Krykov and his crew die, but Ryabov successfully runs the flagship aground, preventing the enemy from advancing further. The defenders of the fortress win.
In the finale, after intrigue and conspiracy, Ievlev ends up in prison, but thanks to the efforts of Ryabov and others, he and Ryabov are freed, and the guilty are punished. The film ends the liberation of Russian lands in the Baltic.
