Plot of the TV series Young Guard (TV series 2015):
The war was in its second year, and the troops of the Southwestern Front had retreated deep into the country. On July 20, 1942, Wehrmacht units entered the mining town of Krasnodon, and the dark days of occupation began for the city's residents.
Thanks to a provocateur who had been planted in the local underground, SS Standartenführer Renatus, who had arrived in Krasnodon, quickly neutralized the partisan detachment operating in the area.
The detachment was ambushed, surrounded and destroyed. Young partisan Viktor Tretyakevich miraculously manages to escape from the punitive forces, and, fulfilling the dying request of his commander, he goes to his native Krasnodon.
From among the local and patriotic youth, Viktor creates a new underground movement, which calls itself the "Young Guard" detachment. Under Tretyakevich's leadership, the Young Guards attack a German weapons depot, post leaflets, and destroy the grain reserves that the Germans had prepared for their troops near Stalingrad.
Viktor did not forget about the search for the provocateur who had betrayed the underground to the Germans. This search soon leads the Young Guards to Lyuba Shevtsova, a singer and dancer at a local cabaret, she was often seen in the company of high-ranking German officers. The detachment decided to liquidate Shevtsova, but Lyuba and her partner "Artist" are the first to reach the Young Guards.
It turned out that Shevtsova and "Artist" were secret liaisons of the center, about whom the provocateur did not know. Now, thanks to them, "Young Guard" finally received legal status and, most importantly, the opportunity to carry out important tasks of the center.

One of such important tasks was the liquidation of the German engineer Hopf. In occupied Krasnodon, the Germans wanted to establish coal mining, but in most mines the equipment was partially or completely destroyed, and engineer Hopf was engaged in the restoration of it.
In Krasnodon, Gopf lived in the house of Elena Kosheva, who, for the sake of saving her only son Oleg, was quite loyal to the Germans. Oleg did not like this at all, but engineer Gopf was a purely civilian person and soon Oleg not only became friends with him, but also became his assistant.
The Young Guards learned that Oleg Koshevoy had access to Gopf's body. They conduct explanatory work with Oleg, and in order to convince Oleg of the brutality of the new government, they show him the corpses of hundreds of Jews whom the Germans threw into the mine.
Seeing this, Oleg asks to join the squad and agrees to carry out an important task for the Young Guard. But so that the Germans do not suspect a terrorist attack and then take it out on the civilian population, it was decided to stage a methane explosion at the mine.
The operation is successful, but the Germans step up their repressive measures. All young people are ordered to register at the labor exchange, in order to be sent to work in Germany. In order to disrupt this plan, the Young Guard decides to destroy the lists of people along with the exchange by setting it on fire.
But that night, when the fire was mercilessly destroying the labor exchange, Renatus received lists of all the members of the Young Guard from a traitor who had found himself in the ranks of the underground. At dawn, raids and mass arrests began in Krasnodon. After brutal torture, the Young Guard members were executed. Two weeks were not enough for them to hold out until Krasnodon was liberated by Soviet troops…
