Plot:
The film takes place between 1940 and 1945 and tells the story of the Soviet intelligence officer Alexander Belov, who operated under the name of the German Johann Weiss.
Shield and Sword. Film 1: No Right to Be Yourself.
Latvia, 1940. During a storm in the Gulf of Riga, Johann Weiss saves his friend Heinrich Schwarzkopf, son of German engineer Rudolf Schwarzkopf. A few days later, engineer Schwarzkopf dies at the hands of hired killers, and German propaganda immediately blames the NKVD, which allegedly dealt with the engineer for his unwillingness to cooperate with the new government.
At this time, Soviet intelligence received information about the preparation of a German invasion of the USSR and Belov (Weiss) was ordered to redeploy to Germany, where most Germans had repatriated after Latvia joined the USSR. Soon after, Weiss and Heinrich left for Germany and, thanks to his uncle Willy Schwarzkopf, who held a high position in the SD, Weiss got a job as a driver, and soon he became a driver for military intelligence officer (Abwehr) Landsdorf…
Shield and Sword. Movie 2: Ordered to Survive.
Together with his new boss, Weiss arrives at his new duty station, Warsaw, where Landsdorf was the head of the Polish intelligence center. Soon, having managed to gain Landsdorf's trust, Weiss receives a promotion and, after completing training, becomes an instructor at the intelligence school.
Weiss's tasks included the selection and recruitment of cadets for the intelligence school from among Soviet prisoners of war.
While working at the intelligence school, Weiss managed to infiltrate several underground agents who, after graduating from the intelligence school, ended up in the Soviet rear and supplied German intelligence with disinformation...
Shield and Sword. Movie 3: No appeal.
1944. Weiss's successes in the Abwehr interest the SD political intelligence service and soon Weiss is assigned to Berlin, where he meets his old friend Heinrich Schwarzkopf. Weiss sees that Heinrich has become disillusioned with the Nazis, who are mired in terrible atrocities. Heinrich tries to drown his pain in alcohol, becoming a hopeless drunkard.
After observing Heinrich for some time and making sure that he does not provoke him, Weiss takes a risky step - he decides to recruit Heinrich.
Weiss presents Heinrich with irrefutable evidence that his father, Rudolf Schwarzkopf, was going to accept Soviet, not German, citizenship in 1940, and for this he was killed on the orders of his uncle Willi Schwarzkopf...
Shield and Sword. Movie 4-th: The last frontier.
1945. The leaders of the Third Reich, sensing the approaching collapse, take the last measures to save themselves, trying to secretly negotiate with the Western allies of the USSR. In order to hide the traces of their crimes, a secret operation to destroy concentration camps and their prisoners is being developed in the depths of the SS. SS Haupsturmführer Johann Weiss is also involved in this operation, which nullifies all the efforts of the fascists to cover their tracks, and saves thousands of prisoners from certain death...
