During the operation to liquidate police general Muratov, the militant organization "Sword", engaged in the search for and punishment of criminals against whom the state justice system is powerless, falls into an ambush. The FSB sent the anti-terrorist unit "Alpha", whose commander had orders to destroy the people's avengers if they offered resistance.
"Sword" puts up fierce resistance to the trained "Alpha" fighters and both groups suffer losses. "Sword" loses Anton Karev and Nikolai Savkin killed. Three members of the organization: Max Kalinin, Konstantin Orlov and Dmitry Chizhov are wounded.
The seriously wounded Max Kalinin leaves the scene of the battle, thanks to Elena Zhurova, who takes him away in an ambulance. Dmitry Chizhov is saved by Viktoria Stepnenko, and Konstantin Orlov falls into the hands of the FSB.
Having barely recovered from his wound, Max resumes the work of the organization and soon there are three new members in the "Sword". They are Roman Vinnikov, a former sergeant of the Russian army, who went through the war in the Caucasus with Max and Kostyan; the former head of the operational-investigative group that developed the "Sword", Viktor Egorov, who was fired from the police, and a young athlete Nikolai. And a few days later, Kostyan Orlov, who miraculously manages to escape from the FSB hospital, joins his comrades.

The updated "Sword" quickly acquires a new base and begins its noble mission to punish criminals. But now the most powerful special service of the country - the FSB - was working against the people's avengers. Andrei Sintsov was listed in the FSB as the best investigator who did not have a single unsolved case. In his work, Sintsov did not disdain any methods, even those that went far beyond the law, but the result of the colonel's work always pleased his superiors.
Sintsov decides to catch "Sword" with live bait and soon, thanks to his efforts, a seasoned killer who shot two police officers several months ago is released. Information about this murderer reaches Kalinin through his former agent. Having called an emergency meeting, Max proposes to punish the killer and prepare for the action.
But this information aroused suspicion among his comrades, even the women doubted that this was not a setup. Everyone was tormented by the same question: "How could such a criminal be released from the pretrial detention center so easily?" The answer was the simplest: so that he could play the role of bait.
But Max does not pay attention to these reasonable arguments of his charges, and orders to prepare for the action. Max's comrades have long noticed that something is wrong with their commander. And Orlov recently accidentally found out that one businesswoman, whom they once helped, is giving Max large sums of money.
This circumstance, and especially the fact that Maxim was hiding something from them, outraged Orlov, but he decided not to ask Kalinin about it for now. But Max himself told about his secret. Having gathered all his comrades at the base, Max addressed them with a video address.
It turns out that Max used this money to create an alternative "Sword" that included all the crooks, murderers and other evil spirits. And it was this alternative "Sword" that Kalinin set up for Sintsov's bait, and Max advises his real comrades to disperse and start a new life...
