The plot of the movie Investigation leads ZnatoKi (Case № 11: At Any Price):
Investigator Pavel Pavlovich Znamensky of the MUR is puzzled by the behavior of citizen Toboltsev, detained several months ago for a minor economic offense.
If at the beginning of the investigation Toboltsev willingly cooperated, for the last month he refused to be questioned at all. The law, of course, gives investigated persons such a right, but in the case of Toboltsev it was clearly not logical.
Toboltsev, who was detained for a minor offense (writing in the outfits), had no previous convictions, and had two young dependent children, could count on a minimum sentence, and in case of cooperation with the investigation, the conviction could be suspended.
Considering all this, Toboltsev's behavior seemed more than strange, so Znamensky decided to call him in for questioning once again. What was the detective's surprise when during this next interrogation Toboltsev confessed to a much more serious crime - murder.
Toboltsev explained his confession by the fact that because of him a completely innocent person might suffer. This person was an intelligent young man named Kholin, arrested on suspicion of murder, who had been put in Toboltsev's cell a month earlier.
Toboltsev insisted that he had committed the murder of a man, of which Kholin was accused, and asked the investigator to let the guy go. But Znamensky was in no hurry to release Kholin, because something in Toboltsev's behavior indicated that he was not telling the truth and was trying to protect Kholin.
Znamensky felt there was some connection between Toboltsev and Kholin, and it was probably necessary to look for it in Kholin's biography ...
