Plot of the film Investigation led by ZnaToKi (Case No. 9: Witness):

A young girl who was waiting for her fiance was pestered by a tipsy man, and when her fiance finally arrived, the man got into a fight with him. Since he was physically much stronger than the young man, the fight ended badly for the latter: the hooligan knocked him out with one blow.

The police manage to detain the offender, but there was no witness who would have seen him hit the victim. Even his girlfriend herself did not see the moment of the blow, since as soon as the struggle began, she rushed to the police for help.

However, one witness was soon found. This was a certain Igor Sergeyevich Vlasov, a dispatcher from the power plant, who was buying cigarettes at a nearby kiosk at the time of the conflict.

Vlasov testifies against Platonov (that was the name of the hooligan), and he is taken into custody. Soon the witness is summoned for questioning by MUR investigator Major Znamensky. Imagine his surprise when Vlasov, who arrived for questioning, upon learning that Platonov had been arrested, renounces his initial testimony.

Instead of testifying, witness Vlasov indulged in some strange philosophy about how the injury sustained by the victim could have happened not from a blow, but from a fall. Nevertheless, the investigation managed to obtain the results of the examination, which confirmed that the cause of the concussion of the victim was precisely the blow.

In addition, the victim soon lost his sight, which was already classified as causing grievous bodily harm.

Having familiarized himself with the results of the examination, the suspect Platonov instantly loses his former bravado and hurries to please the investigation with a sincere confession. Nevertheless, Znamensky still has an unresolved issue with the witness Vlasov.

The detective is haunted by the fact that he first testified against Platonov, and then decided to retract it. After checking whether Platonov and Vlasov had crossed paths before, Znamensky received a negative answer. This means there was another reason...
