Plot of the film Investigation led by ZnaToKi (Case No. 18: The Midday Thief):

An organized crime group is operating in Moscow, engaged in car theft. The bandits act very competently and carefully, and even experienced ZnaToKami are unable to track them down. But one day, a famous traveling apartment thief, Gleb Tsarapov, arrived in Moscow, who unwittingly helped the detectives.

Ironically, Tsarapov decided to rob the apartment of the stadium director Puzanovskiy, who was also an active member of a gang of car thieves. The thief set up surveillance of Puzanovskiy's apartment and noticed that, in addition to him, a young woman was following Puzanovskiy.

This woman turned out to be Raisa Glazunova, a victim whose car was recently stolen by Puzanovskiy's henchmen. Having met Glazunova, Tsarapov convinces her not to cooperate with the official investigation, and to seek justice on her own.

Having collected dirt on Puzanovskiy that would make MUR detectives envious, Tsarapov and Glazunov come to his home for a heart-to-heart talk. Having retired to another room with Puzanovskiy, Tsarapov shows him the materials he has collected on him and offers to exchange them for money, otherwise these materials will fall into the hands of the police.

Tsarapov would have had the money almost in his pocket, if Glazunova had not accidentally found out that he was the same thief and criminal as Puzanovskiy...
