Narrative:

Action of the film Two long beeps in the fog takes place in the early 80s of the last century in the North of Russia. A small cash-in-transit seaplane, which was delivering a large sum of money for a geological expedition, makes an emergency landing on Lake Ayak due to technical problems.

A few days later, the geologists raised the alarm about their two missing comrades, and the captain of the small ship Anadyr, which makes regular passenger trips along the Yangoda River, receives a radiogram with an order to take the two geologists on board and assist them in searching for their missing comrades.

Soon they managed to find the second geologist Chizh, who told his story of what had happened. When he and Ushakov arrived at Yangoda, they noticed a boat belonging to a hunter known in these parts, Fomushkin. Chizh, on Ushakov's orders, immediately went to the tundra to get soil samples, while Ushakov stayed to wait for Fomushkin to ask him for some antifreeze for the boat.

When Chizh returned, he found neither Ushakov, nor the boat, nor Fomushkin and was forced to return to the camp on foot. On the way, he fell ill from cold and hunger and was forced to open fire on the ship "Anadyr" sailing past him.

Having heard that Fomushkin was involved in the case, the captain and the geologists decided to find him and ask him what he knew about the missing Ushakov. But Fomushkin said that he had not seen the geologist, and besides, that day he was with a partner. But the captain, who had known Fomushkin for a long time as a lone hunter, did not believe him and decided to take him on board with him to take him to the police. However, on the way the ship was forced to make an emergency stop due to heavy fog, and the captain ordered two long blasts of the horn, as prescribed by the maritime regulations.

And soon after this, Fomushkin’s body was discovered with a bullet wound to the head.

Since none of the passengers or crew members heard the shot, the captain assumed that it was fired during the long blasts. Realizing that there was a dangerous killer among the ship's passengers, the captain decided not to wait until the ship arrived at the port, but to use his authority on the ship to personally investigate the case and find the killer...
