Narrative:
The action of the movie "Footprints on the Water" takes place in the first post-war years in Western Belarus. Numerous armed gangs of former police officers, nationalists and criminals operate in the territories liberated from the Nazis.
At this time, Senior Lieutenant Smolich, an officer of military intelligence, was seconded to the Porechensky District Police Department, which was searching for a certain Freischütz, a former German agent who had coordinated the activities of several large gangs in the district.
The operatives were surprised at how cleverly Freyuschutz and his men evaded police raids, and when a valuable witness was killed in the walls of the department, there was no more doubt: someone from the police was in cahoots with the bandits....
