Movie plot:

The film takes place in the mid-60s of the last century. The main characters of the film, sisters Nadya and Lida, lost their parents in the war and were initially raised in an orphanage. But later, their uncle, Uncle Mitya, took the sisters into his care and spent a long time searching for them all over the country.

The uncle doted on his nieces and dreamed that they would be happy, but excessive care led to the opposite result. The elder sister Nadya dreamed of becoming an actress and showed great promise even in the orphanage amateur performances.

But her uncle was categorically against Nadya becoming an actress, considering this profession frivolous. As a result, the girl withdrew, deciding to live her life quietly and modestly, and at twenty-six she remained alone.

The younger sister Lida also gets it: her fiancé Kirill was not to Uncle Mitya's taste, and one day a conflict arose between them. Kirill left, and a year later he married another. However, his love for Lida again brings him to the house to which he promised never to return...
