Действие фильма «Туман» разворачивается в современной России. Несколько солдат возвращаясь из полигона в расположение части нарушают маршрут марш-броска. Желая «срезать» дистанцию они выходят на трассу и пытаются остановить попутку. Но никто не хотел останавливаться на просьбы вооруженных людей, лишь небольшой автобус с ветеранами Великой Отечественной войны подобрал нерадивых вояк.

Having learned of such a gross violation of military discipline, the unit commander decided to punish not only the guilty trio, but also the entire second squad in which they served. This punishment was a repeated forced march with full gear, which the second squad had to complete under the leadership of its platoon commander.

At dawn, the fighters ran out of the unit's location, but soon one of the soldiers became ill. The platoon commander realized that this would prevent them from meeting the standard and gave in to the persuasion of his subordinates to "cut" the distance again. To do this, they had to go through a swamp, where there was a thick fog.

Even following the compass, the unit got lost and came to some strange deserted village that wasn't even on the map. Watching through binoculars, the platoon commander saw German soldiers approaching the village on motorcycles and decided they were actors: probably a war movie was being filmed there.

But suddenly the "actors" opened heavy fire on the soldiers, seriously wounding their platoon commander. Stunned by this turn of events, the soldiers, taking the seriously wounded commander, quickly retreated, barely managing to escape. And soon their commander died from his wound, and now Sergeant Silantyev took command of the squad.

Gradually the soldiers began to come to their senses, and it dawned on them that this was not a movie, but a real war. The fog had brought them to 1941, and now they would have to follow in the footsteps of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, whose exploits they had heard so much about, but had valued too little what their ancestors had done for them with such difficulty…
