Narrative:
The action of the series "Attempt" takes place during the Great Patriotic War. At the end of June 1944 began the operation "Bagration". On the scale, suddenness and strength of the blow it was comparable to the German "Blitzkrieg" June 1941.
As a result of this operation, the German troops were pushed back hundreds of kilometers in just a few days. Hundreds of thousands of Wehrmacht soldiers and officers were encircled, and Red Army units and formations poured into the border of East Prussia.
The development and implementation of this grandiose operation belonged to General Sergei Danilov, so, after its implementation, he becomes a personal enemy of Hitler himself.
To organize an assassination attempt on Danilov, the best German saboteurs are involved, including former Red Army captain Yevgeny Kostin with the call sign "Georg". However, before the start of the operation, "Georg" gets in touch with Soviet counterintelligence and informs about an assassination attempt on General Danilov.
Major Agalyants, an NKVD operative arriving from Moscow, establishes that there is a close connection between Kostin and Danilov: both were in love with a young singer of German descent, Jeanne Berger. It is obvious that Kostin had an ironclad motive to kill Danilov, but why did he warn of the attempt?
