Plot:
The action of the film "The Killing of a Witness" takes place in the late 80s, during the late perestroika in the USSR. In broad daylight, a criminal, threatening with a sawed-off shotgun, commits a daring theft of a large sum of money from the accounting department of a department store.
The detectives who arrived at the scene assumed that the criminal had acted on a tip and most likely had an accomplice among the department store staff. Three employees who spent their free time in restaurants were under suspicion, and it soon became known that one of them had received a money transfer of ten thousand rubles.
The transfer was sent from Sochi, by a certain Igor Sopin, a circus administrator. By a strange coincidence, Sopin sent the transfer four days after the department store robbery, and took his vacation the day before.
To develop Sopin, a criminal investigation officer, Captain Rodin, is immediately sent to Sochi. But soon after Rodin's arrival, local detectives find the body of a young woman who drowned in the sea while scuba diving. An autopsy showed that the girl was poisoned by propane gas, which someone pumped into her scuba tank.
Imagine Rodin's surprise when he learned that the dead girl had been spotted in the company of the suspect in the theft, Igor Sopin. It seemed that the circle had now closed, but suddenly a murder occurred, which completely confused all the detectives' cards. This time, Igor Sopin himself was killed.
