Plot:

Action of the film Criminal talent takes place in the late 80s in the Soviet Union, during the so-called perestroika and glasnost. A certain citizen Kaplichenkov approached the detective of the criminal investigation department, police captain Vadim Pitelnikov.

The day before he met a girl in a restaurant, drank a few glasses of cognac to celebrate their acquaintance, and woke up on a bench, on the street, without money. The captain advises the hapless lover to drink less, but he claims that his condition is not caused by alcohol, it seems as if he was poisoned.

Pitelnikov contacted the head of the sobering-up center and learned that he also had "clients" who had made similar claims. After talking to all the victims, Vadim came to the conclusion that all these crimes had been committed by one person. In the evening, Vadim decided to go to the restaurant where the swindler operated to try to catch her red-handed, but he himself became a victim of the cunning criminal. Vadim was taken to the sobering-up center in an unconscious state.

There was another fight against drunkenness, so Vadim got it badly from the management. His friend, prosecutor investigator Sergei Georgievich Ryabinin, tries to stand up for him. He proves to Vadim's boss that he was carrying out a task in the restaurant to catch a criminal. Having failed to convince the police authorities, Ryabinin decides to take this case himself.

Vadim was the only one who had seen the clonidine user in person, so Ryabinin instructed him to check all the restaurants. Finally, in one restaurant, Vadim managed to recognize the swindler, although she had changed her makeup. This time, her victim was the underground Soviet millionaire Sergei Kurikin. The swindler invited him to her home, but then threw him out the door, as if her husband was coming.

As a result, Kurikin lost five hundred rubles. But the detectives were already following them and quickly located the fraudster's apartment. But this time, too, she managed to escape justice. Soon, the elusive clonidine addict changed her profile, and began to "work" at the airport post office. Looking into other people's telegrams, she found out the addresses of relatives in order to receive money transfers.

Having heard the statements of the first victims, Ryabinin realized that it was her. A camera was installed at the post office, and soon the criminal was detained. She turned out to be 20-year-old Alexandra Rukoyatkina, a felting apprentice at a cloth factory. Ryabinin understands that this girl has a real criminal talent: there were many episodes of Rukoyatkina's criminal actions, but there is almost no evidence.

He needs to either bring charges or release Rukoyatkina within 72 hours. Alexandra understands this, and therefore behaves impudently and self-confidently. Ryabinin was completely enraged by this impudence, and he decided to resort to trickery.

He told her that her last victim, Kurikin, had been found dead in the yard of her house. Frightened, Alexander confessed to all episodes of his crimes. At that moment, the duty officer entered the office and said that citizen Kurikin had been brought in for a confrontation.

Realizing that Ryabinin has "taken her for a ride," Rukoyatkina plays on her pity and asks Ryabinin to let her go until the trial, and in exchange, she promises to bring the stolen money. Having put his career on the line, Ryabinin lets Rukoyatkina go on bail...
