Действие фильма «Трагедия в стиле рок» происходит в конце 80-х годов, в период так называемой перестройки. Главный герой фильма Виктор Бодров, студент юридического факультета одного из самых престижных ВУЗов в стране, отличник учебы, спортсмен и как большинство его сверстников конца 80-х увлечен rock music.
Many years ago, Victor experienced a tragedy: his mother left him and his father for a wealthier man, because at that time they barely made ends meet from paycheck to paycheck. But now Victor did not need anything, he and his father had everything that a simple Soviet person could dream of: a luxurious apartment, a car, a dacha, imported clothes and household appliances.
Before studying at the institute, Victor did not even have friends in the yard: his friend was his father, to whom he was very attached. And the Father tried to make a real person out of Victor: from childhood he taught him to work. And while his peers whiled away the evenings in the entryways, Victor led an active lifestyle, doing music and sports.
But one day another tragedy happens in Victor's family: his father is arrested and soon convicted of embezzlement of state property on an especially large scale. Victor is very upset by what happened to his father and one day accidentally meets a certain Cassius.

The man makes a strong impression on Victor with his knowledge of Eastern philosophy, and promises to help the young man cope with the severe depression he found himself in after his father's arrest.
At first, Cassius offers Victor to smoke weed and relieve stress in such an innocent way. Victor, who had never smoked or drunk before, frivolously agrees, and soon even the weed did not help him.
Then Cassius gets Victor and his two friends hooked on drugs. Now, to buy drugs, Victor had to sell everything from his apartment, but even that wasn't enough. Now that Victor is already hooked, Cassius admits that it wasn't by chance that he appeared in his life.
It was all about Victor's father, who, as it turned out, stole millions and hid the money he stole from the state somewhere. So now Victor had to find his father's hiding place to get his dose of drugs...
