Plot:
Action of the film Dear Elena Sergeevna takes place in the late 80s, during the so-called perestroika. The students of the graduating class decide to congratulate their math teacher Elena Sergeevna on her birthday. The teacher, busy with household chores, had already forgotten that it was her birthday and was very touched by the students' congratulations.
When the first toasts to the health of dear Elena Sergeyevna were pronounced, the true motive for such attention from the students to their "beloved" teacher began to become clear. The problem was in the math exam that the kids had taken a few days earlier. Vitya Shevchenko confesses that he hadn't written anything at all. He had been copying everything for the past ten years, and during the exam the representative of the City Education Department stared at him with her huge glasses, not allowing him to copy a single line.
Pasha is not sure about his good result either. Pasha was successful in the humanities, he is a multiple winner of school literature Olympiads, but he was not strong in mathematics, like all creative individuals. And for the philological university, where he was going to enter, mathematics is not needed at all. Any grade other than an "A" could simply deprive him of the silver medal, which gave him a chance for preferential admission.

The first to decide to work on the "uncomprehending" teacher was Volodya, the son of a diplomat who was going to follow in his father's footsteps. Unlike his friends, Volodya had everything under control. A prestigious university of international relations was waiting for him, which, thanks to his dad, he was supposed to enter without any problems. The ambitious young man did not come to beg for a good grade, but to practice his diplomacy and establish himself as a leader in the team. It was he who came up with this idea of congratulating the teacher.
Having taken Elena Sergeyevna to the next room, Volodya decided to prepare the ground. He told her that through his father, he would be able to arrange for Elena Sergeyevna's mother to be admitted to a prestigious hospital. The teacher was very touched by Volodya's offer, but she selflessly does not want to accept such an offer. The boys hint that she can help them: she just needs to give them the key to the safe where their tests are kept.

Realizing that they were simply trying to buy her, Elena Sergeevna immediately came to her senses and demanded that the insolent students immediately leave her house. But the children were determined: they closed the door, tore off the telephone wire and began searching the apartment for the key, not even disdaining a personal search of the teacher. But the search yielded no results and Pasha and Lyalya, realizing what they had done, persuaded Volodya to stop and apologize to the teacher.
But the future diplomat demands to go all the way. He calls Pasha for a talk on the roof of the house and suggests that he act out the scene of Lyalya's rape in front of the teacher. For Pasha, this thought was disgusting, because Lyalya is his girlfriend and he loves her.
Then Volodya, having locked Pasha on the roof, begins the last part of his plan: in front of the maddened Elena Sergeyevna, he tears Lyalya's clothes off and tries to rape her. Unable to bear this madness, Elena Sergeyevna gives him the key. Volodya triumphs, but his friends, shocked by this turn of events, are far from sharing his joy...
