The plot of the movie 12 chairs (movie 1976):
The film takes place in the late 1920s in Russia. The great schemer Ostap Bender and his elderly companion Ippolit Matveyevich Vorobyaninov (Kisa), a former socialite, are looking for treasures that the latter's beloved mother-in-law sewed into one of the chairs in the family's furniture.
The whole problem is that after the revolution the set, along with other mother-in-law's property, was nationalized and scattered throughout the vast country. But Ostap Bender was not afraid of such difficulties, because there was a hundred thousand rubles at stake. Ostap was not afraid of their main competitor, Father Fyodor, who confessed the mother-in-law of the leader of the district nobility and accidentally heard about the secret of the 12 chairs.
And so Ostap and Kisa on one side, Father Fyodor on the other, set off on a journey across the vast country in search of Vorobyaninov's legacy. Their paths intersect and then diverge again, as do the meager funds for the implementation of the enterprise. With each new chair found, the concessionaires' chances increased, but the coveted diamonds were still nowhere to be found...
