A terrible murder has been committed in the small French town of Guernon. The victim of a brutal killer was a professor and librarian at the local university, Remi Quelua, whose mutilated body was found in the mountains.
The multiple signs of torture, severed hands and gouged out eyes impressed even seasoned police detectives. However, they had never dealt with such murders, so Commissioner Pierre Niemans from Paris arrives to investigate the case.
At the same time, in the nearby town of Sarzac, Lieutenant Max Kerkerian is investigating the desecration of Judith Herault's grave and the robbery of a school archive. As it turns out, the two cases were closely linked and soon became one.
Judith Herault died twenty years ago under the wheels of a truck, but someone has just stolen all her photos from the school archive. Finding out the circumstances of Judith Herault's death, Max Kerkerian comes across a man who drove a white Niva.
Having learned the suspect's address, Max Kerkerian tries to enter his house, but here he is detained by Commissioner Pierre Niemans. The trail also led him to this suspect. And when the detectives figured it out, it turned out that they were looking for the same person. But the most important thing was that the murder of Remy Quelua was directly connected to the story of Judith Herault...
