Действие фильма происходит в конце 60-х годов прошлого века. Четверо друзей – однополчан: Виктор Харламов – директор завода, бывший командир саперной роты; Иван Приходько — слесарь, бывший командир разведроты; Николай Дубинский – бухгалтер, бывший радист и Алексей Кирюшин – журналист, бывший минер-подрывник встречаются на похоронах своего однополчанина Валентина Матвеева.
Having seen off their comrade-in-arms on his final journey, the friends, as expected, decide to remember the deceased. And at the same time, to recall their everyday life at the front. Nikolai Dubinsky invited his friends to his place. But on the way, Ivan Prikhodko asked his comrades to stop by his house so that he could warn his wife.
At home, Prikhodko learns that there is an accident on his site, and the young mechanic Petka, a recent vocational school student, is on duty.

Together with his comrades-in-arms, Prikhodko rushes to help his young colleague, who by that time had received an electric shock and was unconscious. Ivan's fellow soldiers, regardless of their current ranks and titles, rush to help him. By saving his young colleague, they prevent an accident.
In order to take Petka to the hospital, the former front-line soldiers stop the car. But the young driver flatly refused to take the boy to the hospital, and even took a crowbar, trying to fight off the annoying front-line soldiers.
Here the comrades-in-arms had to remember their youth and not only neutralize the raging young man, but also use his car.
This "prank" did not go unpunished for his fellow soldiers. The offended young man turned to the police and the former front-line soldiers were thrown in jail. Only thanks to the girlfriend of that very young scoundrel, who explained to the police how it happened, the fellow soldiers very quickly found themselves free.
After such adventures, the front-line comrades, given their age, had to go home. But the restless Ivan Prikhodko suggests that his friends go to one more place. Here, a real surprise awaited the fellow soldiers, because they met their combat friend, Raya, a former front-line nurse, whom they had not seen since the war. Here, at Raya's, they finally remembered Valentin Matveyev and recalled their everyday life at the front...
