Narrative:
Action of the film Pious Martha takes place in the 17th century. Dropout students: the failed priest Don Felipe and the failed lawyer Pastrano head to Madrid in search of happiness. They had nothing in their pockets, but they did not regret at all that they had abandoned their boring studies and thrown themselves into a whirlpool of dangerous adventures.
Soon Pastrano meets Doña Inés, the sister-in-law of the not very rich but noble Don Gomez, who had two daughters: the elder Marta and the younger Lucia. Pastrano suggests that Filipe meet the younger daughter of the respected Don Gomez, because the elder Marta is already engaged to a certain Captain Urbina, an old and very rich lord.
On Pastrano's orders, Felipe goes to the church where the sisters were parishioners and gets to know them one by one. But to Pastrano's great chagrin, Felipe falls in love not with Lucia, but with her older sister Marta, who already had a fiancé.
But the heart cannot be commanded, and in the evening, Filipe, accompanied by his friend Pastrano, goes to sing serenades under the windows of his beloved. Marta also fell in love with Filipe at first sight, because she was engaged to Urbina only under pressure from her father, and did not want to marry him.

But the problem was that the younger sister Lucia also fell in love with Felipe at first sight, and while the sisters stood on the balcony and listened to the songs of the enamored Felipe, each confident that they were addressed specifically to her, their brother Antonio intervened.
He thought that Felipe's songs were addressed specifically to Marta, so he decided to defend his sister's honor and challenged the impudent man to a duel. Felipe was forced to defend himself and in the fight he inflicted a fatal blow on Antonio, from which he died.
Dueling was strictly forbidden at that time, so Felipe and Pastrana quickly retreated from the scene.
Meanwhile, Don Gomez is determined to find and punish his son's killer, but his daughters do not share their father's feelings and still love Felipe. Unable to suffer from love and from the fact that he killed his beloved's brother, Felipe himself is ready to die and decides to participate in bullfights, but Marta does not allow Felipe to say goodbye to life. Having resorted to various tricks, she managed to date Felipe for a long time, right under her father's nose, deceiving him and her elderly fiancé, Captain Urbina.
But soon she and Felipe realized that you can’t build your happiness on deception, and they decided to tell everyone the truth...
