In a hurry to attend a wedding, Fadinard stops in the woods, and while he was taking a leak, his faithful horse, left unattended, badly damaged a straw hat belonging to a certain Madame Anais Beaupertuis.
The problem was that Madame Beaupertuis was married, but she was not in the woods with her husband, but with her lover, Lieutenant Emile Tavernier. She told her husband that she had gone to the store to buy gloves, and naturally she could not come home without an exclusive hat made of Italian straw; it would arouse her husband's strong suspicion as to where she was really.
Fadinard, who was in a great hurry to get to the wedding, hastened to flee from the scene of the accident, hurriedly throwing twenty francs to the victims from his horse. But the lovers, who were in a delicate position, sought out Fadinard, and came to his house. At first Fadinard thought that the woman and her companion were not satisfied with the amount of money he had given them for the spoiled straw hat, and was ready to add more if they would only get rid of him, but now he realized the position in which the unfortunate woman found herself.
As a real man and a Frenchman, he could not allow that would suffer the honor of a woman, and, despite the fact that his wedding was in danger of failure, Fadinard rushes to find the same straw hat, which he is ready to remove from the head of the queen herself, just to correct the situation, the culprit of which unwittingly appeared....
