Narrative:
The action of the movie The last summer of my childhood takes place in 1927 during the NEP. In the country of victorious socialism, a new class of rich and independent people suddenly appeared, which people contemptuously called NEPmans. The NEPmans, envious of the proletarians, dressed well, visited theaters, hippodromes, and were regulars at restaurants.
The main characters of the movie "Kortik" and "The Bronze Bird" Misha Polyakov and Genka Petrov have now become Komsomol members and school activists. Slavka Eldarov left school and went to work in a restaurant: to play the piano for the new masters of life. Misha and Genka often asked each other, "What did they fight for?
Looking at the prosperous new bourgeois NEPmans, there was somehow no universal equality. In this last summer of their childhood, Mishka and Genka were interning at a manufactory factory. One day at the factory Mishka witnessed that, as without the knowledge of the chief engineer of the factory Zimin, the head of sales Krasavtsev shipped a batch of defective goods to a certain Valentin Valentinovich Navrotsky and he hurriedly took the goods out of the factory.
Zimin warned Krasavtsev that he would personally go down to the basement to check the defective goods, which every day at the factory became more and more, but Krasavtsev and Navrotsky hurried to send the goods faster, citing the downtime of transport.

Misha was interested in Navrotsky's personality, especially since he had recently lived in his yard. Valentin Valentinovich was a modest civil servant of the society "Friend of Children" and was engaged in the procurement of manufactures for enterprises. But one day Misha went to Slavka Eldarov's restaurant and met Navrotsky in the company of his classmates Yura and Lyuda, Zimin's daughter.
Slavka told Misha that Navrotsky was a regular at the restaurant, and this fact interested Misha even more. After all, Navrotsky was just a simple clerk, where did he get the money for restaurants? And Valentin Valentinovich was an intelligent man, what did he have in common with crooks and NEPman, regulars at restaurants? Navrotsky was also looking at Misha, for he had witnessed the incident at the factory.
In addition, Navrotsky saw that Misha was an honest Komsomol member and a brave and strong young man. Once before Navrotsky Misha curbed a local hooligan and leader of street kids Vitya Burov, nicknamed "Alphonse Dode". After that, Valentin Valentinovich began to look for an opportunity to make friends with Misha.
But Misha, remembering the incident at the factory, rejected Navrotsky's friendship. One day Zimin, the chief engineer of the factory, had his briefcase with documents stolen from his apartment, and soon Zimin himself was killed. On suspicion of murder arrested Vityka Burov, he was found Zimin's briefcase.
